What is H. Pylori

Can you tell me what is H pylori and how I acquired it?

H. pylori is a bacteria which thrives in the stomach. Helicobacter pylori is a very common organism all over the world. It is probably the most common bacterial infection worldwide. Although no one is sure from where H pylori originated, it may enter the body when you eat contaminated foods, beverages or other contaminated objects. There is evidence that h pylori can also be transmitted by kissing an infected person or by sharing the same foods with an infected person. Once in the body, it finds its way to the stomach where it sets up residence.

H. Pylori is found in more 50% of individuals in North America . However, many people who have the bacteria in the stomach have no signs or symptoms of infection. H. pylori is now known to be the cause of peptic ulcer disease. The bacteria has the capacity to cause inflammation of the stomach wall lining and cause ulcers and stomach cancer.
