Can aloe vera help treat my diabetic wounds?
Aloe Vera is a common tropical plant found in
the Caribbean and many Central American countries. For decades, this cactus
like plant has been ascribed mythological healing powers. You can buy extracts
of Aloe Vera as a powder, beverage, potion, shampoo, lotion, potion, pill and
so on. Many alternative healthcare practitioners recommend Aloe Vera for diabetic
wounds and ulcers. The Aloe Vera is applied as a paste and covered with a
dressing.
So does it work?
At the moment, I can tell you there is ZERO
evidence that Aloe Vera can heal diabetic ulcers. If you are a diabetic, you
should not be mucking around with such BS therapies, otherwise you will soon
end up with no toes or even a leg.
Best advice: see a bona fide vascular surgeon,
let him/her assess the blood supply to your leg and then take it from there. There
is no harm from applying Aloe Vera, but despite the plant having been around
for centuries, there is still no proof that it can heal ulcers-that alone should
tell you that it sucks.
