GERD and lap band

Do you think I should have my GERD repaired at the same time as a lap band?

Wow, first if you have GERD, you should never have a lap band as it may make the symptoms worse. Secondly, the results of GERD surgery are not always great. The surgery is not difficult but good results are not seen in all patients. The most common complaint after GERD surgery is bloating or difficulty eating. If you have GERD, and want to undergo bariatric surgery, a sleeve or bypass may be a better option. If you were my patient, i would recommend exercise to lose weight. if you lose weight, both the GERD and obesity will be cured safely and without any complications. There are excellent medications to treat GERD and why one would want to undergo a high risk procedure (Which may not work) is a mystery. I am a thoracic surgeon and very familiar with GERD surgery- in adults the result suck.
