Leak after a Sleeve gastrectomy

When does a leak occur after a sleeve gastrectomy?

The majority of gastric leaks occur within the first month. Trust me, you will know when you have a gastric leak- you will develop severe abdominal; pain, nausea, vomiting and you will feel like crap. Most patients feel so sick that they immediately go to the ED. Sometimes leaks tend to occur later. It could be that the narrow stomach line is not able to expand and perforates when large amounts of food is eaten. In either case, gastric leak is a life threatening disorder. It needs immediate surgery.
